About us

The Register of Clinical Technologists (the RCT) was formerly known as the Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists (VRCT).

It is a collaboration of three professional bodies comprising the Association of Renal Technologists (ART), the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM). The RCT is now integrated into IPEM business and managed by the RCT management board which is a sub-committee of the IPEM Professional and Standards Council.  The three partners operate under a memorandum of understanding.

Membership of the RCT management board consists of:

  • The RCT registrar
  • The RCT assistant registrar
  • Two named representatives of each professional organisation participating in the management of the RCT
  • Two representatives elected from the RCT registrant body
  • Two lay members

The RCT also supports the work of the Engineering Council and the Science Council. These organisations offer professional qualifications for those working in medical physics and clinical engineering.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The RCT recognises and values the importance of diversity in its registrants.  The RCT actively promotes the richness that diversity brings and takes the commitment to equal opportunities seriously.  The RCT bases its relationships with registrants, partners and other stakeholders on mutual respect and appreciation of individual differences.

The RCT opposes discrimination or harassment on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnerships in employment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, gender and sexual orientation.  These characteristics are protected under the Equality Act 2010.

Allegations of such discrimination by RCT registrants, the RCT Management Board (‘Board members’) and RCT administrators will be investigated and, if proved, will be considered to be misconduct and lead to disciplinary action.

The RCT EDI Policy outlines The RCT’s commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion commitments.
